About BPS
A brief about the Bangladesh Photographic Society – BPS.
Bangladesh Photographic Society -BPS
Bangladesh Photographic Society (BPS) was founded in 1976 by a few dedicated senior and experienced photographers with a mission to organize practicing professional and amateur photographers in Bangladesh. Under the dynamic leadership of Manzoor Alam Beg, a photo maestro and most successful mentor, BPS took off with great achievements like recognition and acceptance as a country member of the world body, FIAP (The International Federation of Photographic Art).
BPS has emerged as a federation with fifteen photographic organizations all over the country. Holding monthly, yearly, national, and international photography contests & exhibitions regularly is the bright track record of the organization. BPS members have so far earned more than eleven hundred invaluable awards including first and other coveted prizes in international photographic competitions, which is an incomparable achievement in any other field in Bangladesh.
Some of the BPS activities for its members are regular Monthly Meetings on its own premises, where two photo contests (Black & White and Color) are held. Slide shows and inaugurating a month-long solo or group exhibition in the BPS Gallery are the major parts of the meeting. Every year, BPS organizes the National Photographic Contest and Exhibition in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of the Bangladesh Government. So far, BPS has organized some international photographic competitions and exhibitions very successfully, many of them with FIAP approval.
BPS has an education wing called Bangladesh Photographic Institute (BPI) also runs a Basic Photography Course, a course that includes practical outdoor and darkroom work. Workshops on various photographic topics are often arranged by BPS.
BPS recognizes experienced and advanced photographers by awarding recognition like Honorary Member, Licentiate Member (LBPS), Associate Member (ABPS), and Fellow Member (FBPS) after systematic evolution of their qualifications, achievements, contribution, experience, and portfolio. In all these categories, honorary recognition is also awarded to celebrated and distinguished photographers. It has more than 4500 members at the moment.
