Shafiqul Alam

Photographer, Videographer, and Trainer

Photographer and videographer Shafiqul Alam began his journey in photography in 1980. He received training from the Begart Institute of Photography, the Institute of Video and Film, and Pathshala South Asian Institute of Photography.

A permanent council member and lifetime member of the Bangladesh Photographic Society, Shafiqul Alam is also serving as the principal of the Bangladesh Photographic Institute. Before 1990, he was a member of the BPS Executive Committee and served as the Exhibition Secretary and Joint Secretary.

In 1990, Shafiqul Alam started his professional career as a photographer at Drik Picture Library Limited. As a documentary photographer and videographer, he has worked for over two decades, creating photo and video documentaries for organizations such as UNICEF, leading national and international NGOs, and various industries. He was Bangladesh’s first architectural photographer. Additionally, he has worked as a Senior Cameraman, Director of Photography, and Broadcast Operations Manager at four renowned television channels in Bangladesh for 14 years.

Shafiqul Alam began his teaching career in 1990 as an instructor at BPI (Bangladesh Photographic Institute) and has been engaged in photography and videography training for over two decades, serving as a trainer and course director at various institutions.

Currently, he is the Principal of the Bangladesh Photographic Institute, the Planning and Development Advisor at AmarPix, and the Director of his own institution, ‘Oboyob Alokchittron.’
